About Us

WHO ARE WE?

Fire Fly Training Academy aims to be a beacon of excellence in the realm of aerial firefighting training, offering unparalleled flight simulator experiences that mimic the unpredictable nature of wildfires. Our academy is powered by a team of seasoned instructors, aviation professionals and simulator experts, each bringing a rich tapestry of experience in aerial firefighting operations, flight training and technology. We are fervently committed to providing training that not only meets but exceeds the rigorous demands of aerial firefighting, focusing on safety, tactical precision, and operational efficiency. Our state-of-the-art simulators serve as the cornerstone of our training programs, ensuring every participant gains the vital hands-on experience needed to excel in real-world firefighting missions.

WHY DO THIS?

The inception of Fire Fly Training Academy was driven by a recognition of the critical need for specialized and advanced training in the aerial firefighting sector. With wildfires becoming more frequent and intense globally, the demand for highly skilled aerial firefighters has never been more pressing. Our goal is to bridge the gap between traditional flight training and the specific demands of aerial firefighting, offering a dynamic and immersive learning environment that prepares individuals to face the complexities of firefighting from the air. We embarked on this journey to cultivate a community of well-prepared, responsive, and adept aerial firefighters, committed to protecting lives, properties, and natural landscapes from the devastating effects of wildfires.

HOW DO WE DO THIS?

Here is where we detail our case based on methodologies and technologies - I basically envision it being a proposal. Thereby proving our understanding of a customer Aerial Fire Fighting needs and establishing us as worthy their trust. I am actually trying to not add tooooo much, as I think there should be kept to broad strokes where possible BUT still need to make a case for the variety of advantages. Tricky balance!

  • Quality: FFTA utilises industry leading simulators "battle tested" by other training organisations all over the world.
  • Uniqueness: Our combination of simulators is unique in the world, our debut offering including a AT802, AT802F Fire Boss, AS350 and a VR sim for a variety of firespotting/observing roles.
  • Equipment: We are able to offer a wide range of units for training, from GPS to Fire Suppression systems and radios. Ask us for a full list!
  • Multi-Role: Our program can the various roles including Air Operations Manager, Air Attack Supervisor and Air Observer.
  • Safety: Simulators provide a risk-free environment where pilots can training without the physical dangers associated with actual real flights. This is especially useful in relation to aircraft or pilot emergency training.
  • Cost-effectiveness: Training in simulators reduces the wear and tear on actual aircraft and saves on operational costs such as fuel, maintenance, and the need for live fire suppression materials. This can significantly reduce the overall cost of training programs.
  • Efficiency: Simulation allows you to get to the training excise and core learning outcome with minimal delays and distraction compared to real aircraft training. Allowing for extremely targetted training in a session.
  • Realism and Versatility: Our simulators can replicate a wide range of firefighting scenarios with different types of fires, weather conditions, and terrains. This variety helps pilots gain experience with the diverse situations they might encounter in the field.
  • Global Database: We can training scenarios anywhere, worldwide! This allows for training in key areas with terrain and vegetation most prone or at risk.
  • Repeatability: Training exercises in simulators can be repeated as often as necessary to master specific skills or procedures. Pilots can practice difficult maneuvers and emergency procedures until they achieve proficiency without the time and cost constraints of real flights.
  • Feedback and Assessment: Simulators can provide immediate feedback to trainees and instructors, allowing for real-time performance analysis and debriefing. This can help identify areas for improvement and track progress over time.
  • Collaborative Training: Networked simulators allow multiple pilots to train together in the same simulated environment, facilitating teamwork and communication skills crucial for aerial firefighting operations. This can enhance the coordination between pilots and ground crews during actual firefighting missions.
  • Accessibility and Convenience: With simulators, training programs can be more accessible and flexible, accommodating different schedules and allows for training all year round, especially useful for off-season!
  • Emergent Outcomes: One of the bonus secondary outcomes we have observed, is the unique and unscripted moments that occur when a bunch of experts are brought together.
